Injuries to the nerve requires restoring sensory or motor function. Nerve reconstruction is required for an injury in a never due to trauma or for pathological reasons. Surgery is required when the nerve cannot automatically regain normal function. Further reasons could be due to loss of normal neurological function which in extreme cases can lead to paralysis and such cases cannot be treated nonsurgically.
